What is e-siam and how does it work?

e‑siam is Eni’s continuous structural‑integrity monitoring system using acoustic emissions and vibration data to detect and analyze corrosion and leaks in tanks and pipes. Sensors capture signals, a gateway processes them, and the system provides real‑time diagnostics. An Enivibes 24/7 Control Room is also available for support.

What types of events and phenomena can e-siam detect?

 

It detects corrosion evolution, localized leaks, mechanical acoustic events, and vibration‑based anomalies, including weak signals from galvanic corrosion and controlled leak events validated in multiple test sites.

 

 

How accurate is e‑siam in locating anomalies?

 

Testing and experience on field show reliable localization of leaks and corrosion hotspots through multi‑sensor acoustic triangulation and statistical 2D/3D analysis. Accuracy was validated on real oil&gas derivatives and water tanks with controlled leaks.

 

 

How is e-siam installed on Tanks?

 

Sensor nodes are magnetically attached to the external tank wall, connected to a smart gateway in a safe area, then calibrated with noise tests before continuous acquisition begins.

 

 

Which types of tanks and fluids are supported?

 

It works on tanks of any size (<100m diameter) storing any fluid: diesel, gasoline, crude, water, chemicals, and is compatible with both single and double‑bottom designs, including ATEX environments.
