Pipeline Integrity at the Speed of Sound

e-vpms (Eni Vibroacoustic Pipeline Monitoring System)® is Enivibes’ Vibroacoustic Monitoring Technology designed to safeguard pipelines with fast, precise detection of leaks, impacts, and third‑party interference: not just leak detection but a fully-comprehensive family of technologies for prevention.
Fully retrofittable and suitable for both onshore and offshore assets, e‑vpms delivers localization accuracy within tens of meters, even across long distances.
Proven in global deployments, it helps operators reduce risk, protect the environment, and ensure continuous, reliable pipeline integrity.
What is e-vpms and how does it work?

e-vpms is Enivibes Vibroacoustic Technology: a combination of pressure, sound and micro-vibrations collected by our sensors, typically spaced several kilometers apart (50+ km in general scenarios). The technology works thanks to the physical principles of wave guides applied to pipelines: anomalies can be located even at hundreds of kilometers of distance. Sensors are non-invasive, require minimal bandwidth and power, and send synchronized data to a central processing unit (on prem or cloud‑based) for real‑time analysis. The system autonomously provides real-time (within minutes), alarms with high precision and accuracy (meters) to the operator. An Enivibes 24/7 Control Room is also available for support.

What types of events can e-vpms detect?

e‑vpms detects leaks, impacts, excavations, illegal tapping, pig passage, valve operations, and other flow disturbances, even when no leak is involved. Its vibroacoustic sensors capture elastic and acoustic waves travelling along the pipeline, enabling real‑time identification of both leakage and non‑leak interference events. The unique features of e-vpms make it the ideal technology to detect events for reaction, prevention and prediction.

How accurate is e‑vpms in locating anomalies?

e‑vpms typically localizes anomalies within less than 25 meters over tens of kilometers, depending on pipeline geometry and operating conditions, with many success cases with meter-wise accuracy. Its multichannel acoustic processing reliably identifies the origin of leaks, impacts, or interference, even in noisy or transient hydraulic environments.

Can e‑vpms be installed on existing pipelines?

Yes. e‑vpms is fully retrofittable and non‑intrusive, up to the point of requiring few or even no taps with the latest updates of the technology. Sensors mount on existing structures, can operate on solar or grid power, and transmit data over minimal‑bandwidth networks. This enables deployment on operating pipelines without service interruption.

Which types of pipelines and fluids are supported?

e‑vpms supports Crude Oil, Refined Products, Water, CO₂, Hydrogen, Gas networks, Aqueducts, Penstocks and District Heating systems. It functions on buried, unburied, onshore, and offshore pipelines, providing continuous monitoring across diverse operational scenarios and fluid types with proven global deployments.
